Osteopathy and Chiropractic
(Volume 1 Issue 1 May 2001)

One of the questions I am constantly asked is 'What is the difference between Osteopathy and Chiropractic?' It's an obvious question to ask and I wish the answer were just as obvious. If you look at definitions in dictionaries or even read the descriptions published by the relevant osteopathic and chiropractic organisations the chances are that you will still be none the wiser.

The main problem here is that there can be as much difference between two osteopaths, or two chiropractors as there is between the two professions. Every practitioner is slightly different, we each have our tried and trusted techniques, and we each have our own approaches to certain problems. Over the years osteopaths and chiropractors have pinched one anothers techniques, if it works for us we will use it. More importantly if it works for you we will use it.

Both osteopaths and chiropractors treat the same problems but every practitioner will work in his or her own way. The best thing to do is to find a practitioner that works well with you. If you are happy with a particular person stick with them regardless of what title they carry. And if you have never been to an osteopath or chiropractor before the best recommendation is from a friend or relative that has been a previous patient.

Now you are just as confused as when you started reading this aren't you?
